In celebration of World Environment Day 2006, UNDP-ACT is supporting the 2006 Ecoforum, due to take place between 5th and 7th June at the Cyprus International Conference Centre, Nicosia, Cyprus. The Event will be coordinated by Eco-Q, a Greek Environmental Quality Magazine, and will include an exhibition of environmental organizations, lectures and workshops. The events under the responsibility of UNDP-ACT can be summarized as follows:

• A full day of lectures on the 5th of June. These lectures will involve Greek Cypriot, Turkish Cypriot and International environmental experts and will be based on the two following themes:

Water Issues in Cyprus (the theme of this year’s World Environment Day is
Deserts and Desertification”

Corporate Environmental Responsibility according to the principles of the
Global Compact

• Two workshops, based on the following themes:

The Global Compact: a workshop for business leaders interested in leading by example and becoming environmental champions for Cyprus

Media and the Environment: a workshop for the media and environmental NGOs to come face-to-face and discuss how to improve public awareness of
environmental issues

• An exhibition, which will be open throughout the workshop.

UNDP-ACT has reserved five stands, four of which are reserved for environmental projects currently being funded by our programme (e.g. olive tree rescue, management of artificial wetlands, etc.)
